Insurance?

Would it be crazy if I told you I'm considering doing insurance full-time? I guess I'm stepping into an unknown realm and yea, it'll be a waste for an Engineering graduate to be a full-time insurance agent, but what do I have to lose to give myself 6 months to try this out?

I really do not know how far, or how much I might go, and even worse, whether I would crash and burn, but yet would it be better than just being a technical salesperson?

It's tough, and I pray that I'll know what to do next..

  2. And a sales engineer is NOT just a technical sales person.

    1) They have to convince the customer why their solution is better, and how their solution can give an ROI (return on investment) to the company

    2) They double as AE's obtaining customer feedbacks and is involved in deploying the solution. (and believe me, customers have the most unreasonable expectations of the products... balance your checkbook, consumes <1W of power, and makes toast for breakfast and cost 10 cents to manufacture)

    3) Not all customers needs are the same, you will need to come out with a variety of solution to fulfill your customers needs, taking in consideration the costs, and your company's profit margins. (also your product timeline, and your inventory)

If you are to say a sales engineer is JUST a sales person with technical knowledge, then a circuit designer, is just an operator with knowledge in circuit, and a process engineer is just a procurer with knowledge in manufacturing.

The word "engineer" amounts to something... we may not be the highest paid or the most glamourous, but we solve problems for people and make the impossible possible

There's a BIG fat difference between Insurance and MLM if someone don't get it...

  5. Doing sales in the insurance industry is a very much a professional industry. it is still a professional industry, but many of them don't get it. mainly because, certain insurance salesman can be unethical and irritating. they don't understand when a person says no to buying insurance, it means a no. They push themselves hard and in the end ... u know what it mean. Relatively, such salesperson are very poor listeners and have heck of the idea of being a true professional salesperson. they are only overcomed by greed to close a deal and gain commission. Basically, this is not a hit-and-run business. It requires servicing, following up and responsibility.

I would suggest you go for the exams first, get the certs, and think about going into it FULLY later. In other word, start doing part time first. i am mainly asking you to do it part time first because it is better to keep your options open especially you are quite unsure where you want to head on to. Being a part-timer insurance salesperson can have it's own cons. Generally, people who buy insurance wouldn't buy from people who are doing part time unless it is friends and relatives who are supporting you. You see, it's not easy to trust a part-time salesperson.

Anyhow, I am a big supporter of you. If you think you are making the right decision, you ARE. If you are unsure, do not move anywhere else but stop and ponder to think. as simple as that. i ain't gonna buy insurance from you. i already have two policies on my name. kekeke. sorry la !
